As it lies just North of the equator, Sri Lanka enjoys a warm tropical climate with seasonal variations cause only by the bi-annual monsoon rains. The South and South West Coast receives rainfall from April to May and September to October while the East coast gets rain from November to January.
The temperature in Sri Lanka is high and fairly constant due to its position just above the equator. The average temperature is around 27 degrees centigrade (80 degrees Fahrenheit) accompanied by high humidity. However temperature varies as you go high into the mountains with an average temperature of about 16 degrees centigrade (61 degrees Fahrenheit).
