Banana Boats and Tubes
If you want to stick to water sports, then banana boats and tube rides are great fun, but if you want to relax, take a boat across the river to the Bentota Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka and lie out on the golden sand.

Boat Rides
Boat rides can be organized up the picturesque Bentota River. You can go for a couple of hours or for a day long boat ride. We can organize a picnic lunch for you so you can sit back and relax and see the exotic flora and fauna that this beautiful island has to offer.

Fishing
River Fishing and Deep Sea Fishing can be organized for those who enjoy this exhilarating sport. River fishing is usually an early morning exercise where you leave at dawn and return with your catch for lunch. Deep sea fishing is for the more serious fisherman and can be daylong or nightlong (usually a 6 hour period).

Brief
The unique garden and house of “Brief” is the life work Bevis Bawa. The garden consists of collections of several small gardens. The result is a climax of beauty. In the leafy trees and shrubs the wild birds call and sing. Flowers glitter in the sunshine. Gracefully shaped vistas reach out towards the horizon. Tranquility pervades the green terraces.

Bawas house is just as distinctive as the garden however, does not have the intricacy; rather its appeal lies in its simplicity – and its wonderful collection of art. Apart from Bawa’s art, Brief houses the work of many others, in particular the Australian artist, Donald Friend, who visited the place in the 1960s and proceeded to execute some marvellous pieces, such as an inventive mural of Sri Lanka, an aluminum sculpture of Aphrodite, and terracotta tabletops engraved with the artist’s extraordinary designs. Sri Lankan artists are represented as well, along with art of less recent origin, such as an old Ganesh statue, which is to be found in the reception room, and a collection of Hindu temple bronzes, which is to be found in the main drawing room.

Bentota Turtle Hatchery
The turtle hatchery is a short excursion from Bentota and here you will have the opportunity to sea the 5 different varieties of turtles that inhabit the Indian Ocean. The beaches of Sri Lanka are the nesting grounds for five species of marine turtles. They are the Green turtle, the Leatherback, the Hawksbill the Loggerhead and the Olive Ridley. All 5 species have been recorded to nest along specific areas of Sri Lanka’s coast. The Bentota Turtle Hatchery has adults of all 5 species. There are also certain areas of the beach that are cordoned off where turtle eggs have been laid. Once the baby turtles are born, they are released at night into the sea and if you are lucky, you will have the opportunity to carry them up to the waters edge yourself.

Beach Parties
For a fun filled weekend for those who enjoy a good party, we can take you to Hikkaduwa (link to hikkaduwa write up) where there are great bars, clubs, restaurants and a party at atmosphere.

Windsurfing is an
incredibly dynamic sport.
You can learn to cruise slowly
like a sailboat, fly along at
lightning speeds, race, wave sail,
or do aerial tricks. The best
time for windsurfing on the west coast
is between November and April. It´s sunny
and the water and wind conditions are good.
After April the monsoon hits and the seas can
be very rough. These conditions are more suitable
for experienced windsurfers. On the east coast the best winds are during July and August. They tend to be on the strong side, but other than that conditions are excellent.

And, of course, the best thing about windsurfing in Sri Lanka is that the water is nice and warm whatever the season. No wetsuits, no Neoprene. All you need is your swimming gear! If you are a beginner, you can learn in the relative safety of the Bentota river while windsurfers with experience can face the stronger winds of the open sea.

Enjoy a windsurfing course in the warm, blue waters of the Indian Ocean. Our windsurfing instructors will teach you about the wind, how to efficiently get on the board, sail and turn. Learn the high-wind stance, steering and jibe and continue to reinforce sailing skills.
