Windsurfing Camps

windsurfing tricks

Windsurfing camps can be arranged for small groups, families and friends. The camps run all year round because the weather and windsurf conditions in Sri Lanka are consistently good for beginners. 3 days are set aside for learning to windsurf followed by an ‘Improver’ course to help fine tune your skills. You are then ready to go out on your own and get in some practice.

Safety
As part of the introduction to the course our instructor teaches students about all the safety aspects of this sport.

Accommodation
Accommodation can be provided at or near the windsurfing location. You have a choice of staying at small homely bungalows or at a star class hotel.

Start Time/ End Time
Camps start late in the morning and end in the afternoon, with a short break for lunch. So be prepared for a rigorous training.

Training – Steps
It would be ideal to come to the camp on a Friday evening in order to settle in. On this first evening you will get a chance to meet your windsurfing instructor who will explain the basics of windsurfing. This is important basic preparation for the next day when the course begins.

Late morning is a good time to get on the water as the wind is up from the early morning calm. Your wind surfing instructor will first instruct you on land and then instruct you on water.

Certificates
At the end of the course each student will receive a certificate saying they participated in and completed the course.

Windsurfing is an
incredibly dynamic sport.
You can learn to cruise slowly
like a sailboat, fly along at
lightning speeds, race, wave sail,
or do aerial tricks. The best
time for windsurfing on the west coast
is between November and April. It´s sunny
and the water and wind conditions are good.
After April the monsoon hits and the seas can
be very rough. These conditions are more suitable
for experienced windsurfers. On the east coast the best winds are during July and August. They tend to be on the strong side, but other than that conditions are excellent.

And, of course, the best thing about windsurfing in Sri Lanka is that the water is nice and warm whatever the season. No wetsuits, no Neoprene. All you need is your swimming gear! If you are a beginner, you can learn in the relative safety of the Bentota river while windsurfers with experience can face the stronger winds of the open sea.

Enjoy a windsurfing course in the warm, blue waters of the Indian Ocean. Our windsurfing instructors will teach you about the wind, how to efficiently get on the board, sail and turn. Learn the high-wind stance, steering and jibe and continue to reinforce sailing skills.
