Wakeboarding – Tour description
Beginner Level
If you are new to wakeboarding don’t worry. Sri Lankans take everything easy. Our instructors have years of experience and will guarantee you that you will be riding behind the boat from the first day.
Before you take our word, here is what we have in mind for you. On our wakeboarding camps we will teach you the “right way”.
We start by giving you the theoretical background first. We will learn the terminology, the do’s and don’ts’, everything you need to know about the equipment and most important of all, we will learn how to stay safe and unharmed while practicing. We will also see how the basic moves are done and each evening you can see your next days training before you do it. Its amazing how things get easy once you can visualize it.
We do this in an interactive way, using video and written materials and at the end of your holiday you will get everything with you on a dvd so you can review whenever you want.
Following this, we will get our hands on the equipment and perform dry runs on how to get up and ride behind the boat. There are little tricks that once practiced on land will help you get out of the water in no time. We will find out if you are a “regular” or a “goofyfoot”. This will tell you wether you will ride the board left foot or a right foot first.
This is also the first time when you will learn the correct body stance, the position of your arms on the handle and the getting out of water procedure. Everything will happen in less than 30 minutes so don’t worry, you will be in the water soon enough.
Once in the water, your progression will follow a few set stages:
Getting out of the water and riding behind the boat. In this stage we learn how to stand up with ease and keep correct body posture through-out your rounds. We make sure you look good riding. It sounds like a difficult and lengthy process but we assure you its not. The feeling you have once comfortable is an amazing one. The thrill and the excitement will get you hooked to riding forever and we will be there to immortalize this moment for you. We will catch you on film and photos so that afterwards can show your friends but also verify your posture and correct any stance and style issues. Everything becomes perfect with practice.
Leaving the wake and slaloming behind the boat. In this stage you will learn “carving out”. This is probably the most important step in your wakeboarding career. It is the corner stone of anything else you will do after, from wake jumps to 360s. This is where you’ll use having learned the correct stance previously. We will start with small turns inside the wake and soon learn how to cross the wake out and back inside. We will do this until you are comfortable doing slaloms outside the wake. This stage is also when you will learn to carve hard, thus increasing your riding speed.
Doing your first tricks. This is where your hard work starts to reap extraordinary results. You will now start with wake jumps, move on to wake to wake jumps, learn how to ride switch, do 180s, 360s, etc.
At the end of your holiday you will feel a great sense of achievement and gained memories you will never forget. Surely you will have a new passion in your life if not an obsession.
You may wonder how hard wakeboarding is on your body. You need a certain level of fitness but our camps will be great for you no matter how long you can run or swim. The muscles you use while wakeboarding can only be trained by wakeboarding anyway. And dont worry, for the days when you have muscle fatigue we have plenty of other things you can do to recover while having fun.
Intermediate and advanced riders
For those of you out there that are wakeboarding for a while now, Sri Lanka is the place to come and improve your skills. It is still inexpensive to ride here comparing to other places in the world.
Our instructors will give you feedback on each ride to help you progress. At the beginning of each holiday we have a chat with you to find out your goals and expectations and we help you make a plan to achieve them.
